2nd Floor Addition to an Arts and Crafts Cottage

The original Arts and Crafts cottage was built in 1928.  Charming -- if not trailer-like! -- in its presence. The First Floor spaces are now organized around a 2-story stair. New details include exposed rafter tails, wide window casings, and contrasting window sash. The new stairwell is located at large windows on left.  The still-awkward original porch will be replaced at a later date.
 The timid presence of the original house has been strengthened dramatically without overwhelming its neighbors.

The First Floor was re-organized around the new stairwell, which serves to both segregate and unite formal/adult spaces and child-oriented spaces.
