2nd floor addition to
an Arts and Crafts cottage
Wellesley,
Massachusetts
|
| The
original Arts and Crafts cottage,
built in 1928, was a charming, if almost trailer-like, home (below
left). Its timidity of was bolstered by the
addition of a second floor, although not to the point of overwhelming
its
neighbors (right). |

Exposed rafter
tails, wide window casings, and contrasting window sash express the
home's Arts and Crafts heritage. Tall windows illuminate a new 2-story interior
stair
hall (above left, on left side of
house). The First Floor was reorganized around
this space, which serves
to
zone
formal/adult spaces and child-oriented spaces.
