Addition to a Boston
Arts and Crafts house
|
| This
2-story addition was
designed for a charming but
undersized home in the Dorchester neighborhood of
Boston. A
modest budget called for a new television room, breakfast
room, two bedrooms and a bath. The entire new program plus two exterior
balconies
were accommodated within a footprint of 732 square feet. |

|
Above:
The
addition (partly obscured by the tree in above left photo) extends
fully across the
rear (above right) of the
original house. By continuing the existing architectural vocabulary,
the house's overall scale is increased, strengthening its presence
among its larger neighbors (Before
photo, below).
